Brown University was established in Providence, Rhode Island in 1764 making it the seventh oldest academic institution in the United States. As far as academics are concerned, Brown University ranks 16th in the nation for academics. Brown University was the first university to accepts students regardless of religious affiliation. Today, Brown University has around 8200 students and consists of The College, Graduate School and Alpert Medical School.
Brown University has incorporated an Energy and Environmental Advisory Committee to reduce the carbon footprint on campus and eventually target carbon neutrality. Brown received the highest grade possible, an A-, on the recent released College Sustainability Report Card. The were only one of 15 schools to do so. They also have a website called the Brown is Green that reports on Brown University's efforts to reduce carbon emissions on campus.

Let's talk about sports... Brown University competes in the Ivy League athletic conference at the Division I level. Brown competes in 37 different division I sports and are known as the Brown Bears. Along with other Ivy League universities, Brown does not provide athletic scholarships. Overall Brown University's best sport has to be soccer. Their men's soccer team is consistently ranked in the top 25. The women's rowing team has also won 6 national titles in the last 12 years.
