California State University Long Beach eco-friendly t-shirts and apparel from Project571. California State University Long Beach or Cal State long beach is the second largest campus as part of the California State University system. With an enrollment of over 22,000 Cal State long beach is also the third largest of all universities in the state of California. Enrollment applications for the 2010 Fall Semester was a staggering 71,000 applicants, the most of any school in the system. Known as one of the largest and most well respected universities in the State system, Cal State Long beach may be best know academically for its engineering program. The Cal State Long Beach engineering program has continually been ranked as one of the top undergraduate programs in the country. California State University Long Beach is also known and respected for some of their other programs such as Accounting, Business, Nursing, Geography, and most notably art.
Something near and dear to the hearts of Project571 is Cal State Long Beach's efforts of sustainability. With such programs as the Environmental Science & Policy Club, Cal State Long Beach has taken great measures to bring awareness and support to our environment. In 2007 CSLB and the Environmental Science and Policy club installed solar panels on some of the resident halls as well parking structures. Another creative yet unconventional measure taken was to implement waterless urinals in the mens restrooms. These efforts and more are part of Cal State Long Beach's comprehensive sustainability program and energy management strategies.
Cal State Long beach boast some very famous alumni. Most notably Steven Spielberg and Steve Martin. Spielberg was an undergrad student in 1965-1969 but also returned for further education from 2001-2002. He received his B.A. in film and is a Theta Chi alumnus.
Known as the 49ers for the year they were founded, Cal State Long Beach is the rival to another recent Project571 addition Cal State Fullerton. And like the Titans, the 49ers have flourished in athletics, specifically baseball. Known locally as the "Dirtbags", Cal State Long Beach has appeared in 17 of the last 20 NCAA tournaments. Along the way they have racked up 9 Big West Conference Championships as well as four appearances in the College World Series. Recent 49ers players to make it to the big leagues are: Jason Giambi, Bobby Crosby and Evan Longoria. In addition to baseball, California State Long Beach has had success in Men's basketball, volleyball and tennis. Unfortunately, the mens Football team was discontinued in 1991 due to budget cuts.
