P571 is proud to announce the addition of Butler University to our line of eco-friendly t-shirts, sweatshirts and college apparel. We now offer a full line of Butler Bulldogs t-shirts, sweatshirts and apparel for youth, adults and infants.
Butler University is a private university located in Indianapolis, Indiana with an enrollment around 4,400. Found on November 1st, 1855 the university was originally names North Western Christian University, but we renamed Butler University in 1875 in honor of the financial support and vision of Ovid Butler. Butler used to be home to the largest student run radio broadcast in the nation but programs was dismantled the mid 1990s.
Butler University goes the athletic name "Bulldogs" and competes at two different levels. The men's basketball team competes in the Horizon League at the Division I level, but the football team competes at the Division II level in the Pioneer Football Leagues.
Butler has a rich tradition in men's basketball including two national championships in 1924 and 1929. Butler plays in the Hinkle Fieldhouse which was the largest indoor arena in the nation for decades. The famous Hinkle fieldhouse has always been home to the Indiana State high school basketball championship game and was the used for the filming of the movie Hoosiers. The Butler Bulldogs reached the Sweet Sixteen in the 2003 NCAA tournament defeated 4 seeded Louisville and 5 seeded Mississippi State. Butler has continued their success to date and are currently a ranked team for the 2009-10 season.
Butler Bulldogs Football also has a rich history winning 31 conference championships from 1934 to 1994. The Butler men's soccer team has also been successful as of late making the NCAA tournament in 5 times since 1995.
