Fair Trade and Labor
Don’t look now but the world has gone out and grown itself a conscience. Fair Trade and Labor wholesaler certifications are becoming a must have for American businesses manufacturing overseas. Unfair labor and wages have long been a worldwide issue. Large corporations look to have their materials manufactured overseas in third world countries where workers are not treated or paid fairly. Wages are often well under a dollar an hour and working conditions are subpar and unfair. Not to mention, many of these workers are under the age of 15.
Project571 buys wholesale materials exclusively from Fair Trade and Labor wholesalers. That means that the fair trade college apparel we sell is made by companies that pay and treat their workers fairly. It may be a few dollars more, but its worth every penny to know the people who worked hard to support their families were paid fair wages and had decent working conditions. People often don’t realize when they buy something that’s a “few dollars less” than the competition that their indirectly supporting unfair labor practices in third world countries all across the world.
Project571 is proud to be a part of the growing Fair Trade and Labor movement. Next time you buy something, ask to learn more about where and how that product is made.
